Down East Challenge
The Down East Challenge is an exciting overnight race from Marblehead to Rockland,
Maine, starting Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10:00 am. The Regatta is sponsored by the
Marblehead and Rockland Yacht Clubs to make it a memorable event, for a first-time
race for cruisers to hard-core single handlers. This great downwind ride has something
for everyone. The many categories classes include: single-handed, double-handed, and
fully-crewed racers and cruisers.
It is a Clean Regatta for ocean conservation and a qualifier forsingle-handed racers for the Bermuda One Two. It is an excellent opportunity for cruisers with no previous offshore race experience to participate, and for a1.1 to enjoy the pleasure of this overnight
destination race. There are many activities associated with the Regatta, including breakfast at the Marblehead Yacht Club before the race, Skipper and Crew Parties before
and after the Regatta, sailing in Maine to nearby Camden, Northeast Harbor, etc.
Cruising from Rockland back to Marblehead is an ideal way to visit many exciting ports,
ideally spaced for 4 to 6 hour day sailing: Rockland to Tennant's, Boot'hbay to Portland
or Biddeford Pool, Kennebunkport to Portsmouth, and on in to Marblehead.
