2003 PHRF New England Championship - Race Results

Friday: Only Classes 1 through 6 raced today. The wind was moderate out of the south west. Just before the start of Race 1, there was a 50 degree shift to the right that caused the Line 1 race to be abandoned and restarted after the course was rearranged. The wind finally settled in in the vicinity of 240 degrees.

Race 2

Saturday: The day brought a brisk northwesterly wind. In the afternoon the wind got over 20 knots. It was a typical shifty northwester. Line 3 got in 3 races today. Five boats in Class CR3 were disqualified from their third race of the day for failing to observe the wing mark after rounding the weather mark.

There is a modification to the SIs that allows a fifth race for only line 3. If Line 3 gets in two races Sunday, they will be allowed a throwout race.

Series Summary

The Fleet Challenge Trophy was awarded to the Boston Harbor Fleet. Prior to the event each fleet selects three boats. The trophy is award to the fleet with the best performance of their three boats.

The West Marine Performance Trophy for the best overall performance was awarded to Dick Hyde of Class 5. This is given to the winner of the class with the closest racing. Thus a boat that wins most of the races in its class will not likely get this trophy as the racing was likely not close.
